Plan for a future in financial planning
Join the financial planning industry for an exciting career that rewards both you and the people you'll help. You’ll gain a deep understanding of saving, investing, and other financial tools. But, more importantly, you'll develop the know-how to help individuals and families prosper by understanding their beliefs, values, and goals. Financial planning is life planning, and you'll play a critical role in putting people on a path to fulfill their dreams. Graduates will be well-prepared to meet CFP® certification standards and to launch a rewarding career.
Make a Difference in a Growing Profession
Your interest in financial planning can help people navigate through major life decisions, such as buying a house, starting a business, saving for college, and retiring comfortably. Secure your future – and make a difference – with a degree in Personal and Family Financial Planning.
This major at the University of Arizona gives you a broad knowledge of all the things that can help people achieve their goals: investment planning, saving strategies, estate planning, retirement savings, family income strategies, risk management, income tax planning, and standards for professional conduct. You'll understand both the math and the human motivations, so you can become as much a life counselor as a number cruncher for your clients.
We developed our curriculum with industry professionals who expect a high demand for the next generation of ethical and knowledgeable financial planners to protect, grow, and manage their clients' financial assets. Our program is approved by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, CFP® (with plaque design) and CFP® (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.
Additionally, our program is one of the few in the country that prepares you to take the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam. Employers often seek out candidates who have this knowledge of the securities industry, such as terminology, securities products, regulations, and the structure and function of markets.
You’ll take part in courses that help you understand your ethical and fiduciary responsibilities, as well as elective courses on personal and family dynamics, so you’re able to build strong relationships with your future clients. In this major, we invest in people first.
We also offer a 2+2 format for a Bachelor of Science in Personal and Family Financial Planning that allows you to complete your first two years of your degree in the Maricopa Community College District and then transfer to the University of Arizona's Chandler or Yuma location.
Additionally, you'll complete a financial service industry internship that will help you cultivate on-the-job skills.
